Lost in the political rhetoric is the indispensable role that non-profit organizations contribute to the economic, educational, cultural, and societal strength of the United States. From faith-based, social, fraternal, environmental, veteran-oriented, and beyond, these private sector groups provide billions of dollars of services that no government agency could possibly duplicate. They are motivated to confront needs with creativity, resourcefulness, passion, initiative, and selflessness.

Ruthie and I are firm believers that these private agents of philanthropy are an integral part of strong communities. Through my own work for and with non-profits, and Ruthie’s service with The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, we know firsthand the power of private initiative in action.

Non-profits take up the role of supporting strong families, helping neighbors, educating our children, and more—lifting a tremendous burden off taxpayers despite the challenges of government interference and politicization of those causes. As your congressman, I pledge to do everything possible to create a healthy environment for non-profits to operate so they may continue to flourish and grow. I will work to eliminate federal regulations that strangle their effectiveness and foster an atmosphere that incentivizes private investment.
